The Perks of a Living in a Continuing Care Retirement Community

If you’re just starting to look at different retirement communities and options for this exciting new chapter of your life, you may (or may not) have heard the term “CCRC.” The acronym CCRC stands for Continuing Care Retirement Community, a type of community offering various levels of living accommodations and resident care. Unlike an active adult community or a skilled nursing facility offering a single level of care only, a CCRC allows residents to seamlessly move from one care level to another, if needed.

As a CCRC, Spring Harbor offers a full continuum of care. Whether you’re looking for luxury in one of our garden villas or a conveniently located modern apartment home, our Independent residences come in many different floor plans. On the Healthcare side, Personal Care at Spring Cove adds ease to everyday activities, while Skilled Nursing Care at Horizon Point provides comfort and quality of life, and the built-in safety measures of thoughtfully designed floor plans at Lighthouse Point keep Memory Support residents safe. With Independent Living, Personal Care, Memory Support and licensed Skilled Nursing all on one campus, Spring Harbor can accommodate almost anyone.

These multiple levels of care available in one community become particularly beneficial for anyone experiencing shifting needs related to assistance with daily activities or medical treatment plans. For example, if a Spring Harbor Independent Living resident undergoes surgery as part of a planned procedure, that resident may choose to temporarily move to our Skilled Nursing floor for rehabilitation. Similarly, a resident facing increased mobility issues might make a more permanent move to a Personal Care apartment at Spring Cove to receive a little extra help and get closer to dining venues and resident activities. Speaking of activities, did you know Spring Harbor offers a different monthly resident activity calendar for each level of care based on abilities levels?

A CCRC like ours gives you the freedom to make these moves from one residence type to another as needs change, while remaining part of the same beloved community. That means that residents not only mature gracefully in a well-known environment, but are also surrounded by a diligent team of caretakers they already know and trust.

At Spring Harbor, our medical staff already knows each resident’s personality and capabilities, allowing us to better serve and identify residents’ needs should they experience an unexpected medical event like fall, or if health needs change over the long term.

For married residents, a CCRC can be extra beneficial because each individual in a couple may require an individual level of care at some point. A CCRC like Spring Harbor allows spouses to remain near one another no matter how different their needs may be.

We like to think of our CCRC as a reliable support system for Spring Harbor residents’ social and healthcare needs. With the flexibility to shift care and living options as needed, our residents know there will always be a place for them here. It’s easy to see why our residents cherish the ability to remain in one place, continuing to see the same familiar faces and enjoy many of activities to which they’ve already grown accustomed.

No one knows what the future will hold, but knowing there’s no need to say farewell to beloved friends, caretakers, and amenities offers significant peace of mind. Rest assured, knowing you will always be well taken care of at our CCRC, so that you can focus your energy on living for today.
